The Finality of
Finials
Up until recently
I’d never really thought about the creativity behind finials.
Finials are described as ‘ornamental devices’ that are used to
decoratively emphasize an object. Not only are they used for
architecture, but they are also used for home furnishing such as
bed frames and even lamps. Their purpose is to create an
effective finish.
I’ve only just realized what finials are myself so if you are
like me and don’t know much about them, they are the decorative
piece on top of the shade that fastens it to the lamp itself.
There are many different styles that you can get depending on
how the overall lamp is going to look when it’s complete.
The Victoria Lamp Shade Shop sells a wide variety of them. They
have lamp finials and copper finials that are made out of a
variety of high quality materials. Some are made to look like
jewels and others are made to look like familiar shapes. For
example, shapes such as a treble clef, a moon or even a bird are
turned into finials.
If there were a particular theme that you want to create, a
finial would be a nice way to assist in creating the desired
look. For instance, if you have a flowery theme for your lamp,
there would be no better way than to pull it all together by
putting a matching flowered finial on top. They can enhance the
decorating theme in any room. They aid in the decorating process
by creating a consistency.
Some finials can look quite fancy if located in a living room.
Some can be playful looking if for instance the lamp is located
in a child’s room, it could be in the shape of a teddy bear.
Like any other type of decoration, the finial is a great way to
express your individuality by expressing each person’s unique
decorating style.
The staff at the Victoria Lampshade Shop are experienced in
dealing with finials and are excellent at giving suggestions as
to how certain finials can broaden the look of a lamp and even a
room. Finials are like the cherry on top of a sundae, they pull
the whole thing together and make it pleasing to the eye.
