The Artistic Side
of the Lamp Shade
The Victoria Lampshade Shop has
changed how I view lamps forever. They don’t have to be just
lamps, they can be works of art! Just in the same way that a
painting or an ornament can be a focal point of a room, so can a
lamp. There’s a variety of styles that you can do to create a
look that’s your own. With a diversity of taste, comes a
diversity of styles.
Customers of The Victoria Lampshade Shop have been known to
bring in their own materials to be used, whether that unique
fabric, or that extra trim, to perfectly match whatever their
needs may be. Such styles are still being used like art nouveau
to retro. However, with the rise of the creative class, people
are finding that it’s just as fun to come up with their own
style. There’s even been a lamp shade made to look like a hat!
In the present day almost anything can be used to make a lamp.
Materials such as parchment, glass and even metal are being
used. With a wide variety of modern designs out there, it’s
obvious that there’s an equal number of styles that can also be
used for lamp shades.
Does Grandma like a particular style? Many old fashioned
varieties are available such as Victorian, Tiffany and Art Deco.
A new shade can breathe life into that old lamp forgotten in the
corner.
How about the children? From designing a nursery, providing an
infant with a decorative night light, to giving a daughter a lamp worthy of
a princess. Options are as varied as a child’s imagination. Colours and shapes are just the beginning. Themes such as
hobbies, pets and playtime are just a few of the ideas that help
create a perfect environment to grow up in.
Yourself even? There’s lots of little things that you can add to
a lamp in order to customize it to your specific needs. You can
add an interesting fringe around the edges to pull the style of
the lamp together, a unique finial can make it your own. However
it’s not always the materials that draw the attention. A myriad
of shapes can also be used such as hexagons, squares, rectangles
and ovals, to less orthodox bell or crescent shaped.
We live in a community where there’s an overriding trend of
‘anything goes’. There is no limit to anyone’s form of
creativity. People are free to express themselves through
fashion, through paintings, or even through their lamp shades!
